Stillwater Public Library and Bayport Public Library are seeking a Naturalist-in-Residence to lead a programming series in libraries and outdoor spaces for eight weeks during August–September 2024. The intended audience will be youth and families.
The Naturalist-in-Residence will offer 8-10 educational programs and workshops focusing on the ecosystem of the St. Croix River Valley in the cities of Stillwater and Bayport. The residency will include time spent collaborating on an expansion of the circulating nature backpack collection and associated resources.
The project will offer opportunities for members of the public to immerse themselves in accessible outdoor spaces. Possible program themes and activities could include water conservation, birding, insects, pollinators, macroinvertebrates, and art and poetry in nature. The primary focus is to show families how nature can be an accessible and important part of their lives.
The goal of the project is to foster a connection with nature through exploration, inquiry, observation, and reflection. Through these experiences, participants will better understand their place in the natural world.
