Bayport Public Library provides free access to a number of commercial online databases. These databases cover a broad range of subject areas, and many supply “full text” documents, ready to view and print right from the computer. (With selected databases, search results can be sent to a personal email account; otherwise, documents may be printed for 10¢ per page.) Remote Access FACTS.com brings together content
from seven core reference databases to answer questions about events,
issues, statistics and people over the last 20 years. Special features
include maps, photographs, historic documents, and overviews of key issues,
newsmakers and events since 1980. FACTS.com is published by Facts
On File News Services. FACTS.com seven core databases include: Editorials On File
FirstSearch provides online access
to a growing number of popular databases on business, science, technology,
the humanities, medicine, and popular culture. These databases are
produced by OCLC, Inc. FirstSearch access is made possible through
state funding to the MINITEX library network. Six FirstSearch databases
are available to Bayport Public Library users. These include: Article 1st - Index of articles from
nearly 12,500 journals. GaleNet reference
databases are created by Gale Group Inc., a leading producer of reference
books and online information databases. Three
GaleNet
databases are available to Bayport Public Library users: Associations Unlimited Biography Resource Center Contemporary Authors, Contemporary Literary
Criticism Select, and Dictionary of Literary Biography InfoTrac SearchBank provides indexing
and selected full text documents for a large number of periodicals, newspapers,
encyclopedias, and directories. InfoTrac SearchBank is a product of Gale
Group Inc., a leading producer of reference books and online information
databases. Access to these databases is funded by MELSA (Metropolitan
Library Service Agency).
Four InfoTrac SearchBank databases are available
to Bayport Public Library users:
Academic ASAP General Business File ASAP General Reference Center Gold Health Reference Center NoveList is an online reader's advisory tool that
helps readers find fiction books based on books they've read or topics
in which they are interested. ProQuest provides indexing
to over 2,400 periodicals, newspapers, and dissertations. Many full-text
resources are included. ProQuest is produced by Bell and Howell,
Inc. ProQuest access is sponsored through a MINITEX library network
grant. Minneapolis
Star-Tribune and the St.
Paul Pioneer Press. Indexing and full text articles for current
news and the news archives of the Star-Tribune (back to 1990) and the
Pioneer Press (back to 1988). Note: We have built in direct links
to startribune.com and pioneerplanet.com. If you access these sites outside
of the Library, you will be charged to download article contents. Free
access through public libraries is made possible through special funding
from MELSA (Metropolitan Library Service Agency).
ReferenceUSA.
Provides directory information on 10.5 million businesses located in the
US. Search by company name, industry, location, number of employees,
or type. World Book Online. All articles
from the print version of the well-known encyclopedia, plus additional
articles, updated monthly. American Heritage Dictionary Community Resources File Special Interest Lists Thomas
Register. Access to this directory of manufacturers through
the Washington County Library web page. This link takes you to the
Thomas Register entry on the Washington County Library "Useful Sites"
List. Once you are there, I.D. and password for free access are
