ONLINE DATABASES
Bayport Public Library provides free access to a number of commercial online databases. These databases cover a broad range of subject areas, and many supply “full text” documents, ready to view and print right from the computer.  (With selected databases, search results can be sent to a personal email account; otherwise, documents may be printed for 10¢ per page.)

Remote Access
Work is in progress to provide remote access to many of the special information databases.  At present, a text-only version of the InfoTrac databases may be accessed through a telnet connection  to the library. You will need to use your valid Washington County library card bar code for entry.


FACTS.com brings together content from seven core reference databases to answer questions about events, issues, statistics and people over the last 20 years.  Special features include maps, photographs, historic documents, and overviews of key issues, newsmakers and events since 1980.  FACTS.com is published by Facts On File News Services. FirstSearch provides online access to a growing number of popular databases on business, science, technology, the humanities, medicine, and popular culture.  These databases are produced by OCLC, Inc.  FirstSearch access is made possible through state funding to the MINITEX library network.  Six FirstSearch databases are available to Bayport Public Library users.  These include:

InfoTrac Logo

InfoTrac SearchBank provides indexing and selected full text documents for a large number of periodicals, newspapers, encyclopedias, and directories. InfoTrac SearchBank is a product of Gale Group Inc., a leading producer of reference books and online information databases. Access to these databases is funded by MELSA (Metropolitan Library Service Agency).

Four InfoTrac SearchBank databases are available to Bayport Public Library users:

Academic ASAP  
Provides indexing, abstracts, text and some images for over 1,000 key periodicals in every major academic concentration (full text for 500).  Use to find articles on current events, economics, history, psychology, humanities, religion, education, law, literature, art, sociology, political science and more.  Coverage is from 1996 to present. Some back files; dates vary by source.

General Business File ASAP  
Provides indexing and abstracts for over 1,200 business-related magazines and newspapers (full text for 460).  Also includes 110,000 company profiles, and 50,000 investment reports.  Use for information on finance, acquisitions and mergers, international trade, money management, new technologies, local and regional business, etc.  Coverage is from 1995 to the present; with access to a back file for 1980 - 1984.

General Reference Center Gold  
Provides indexing and abstracts for over 1,100 general interest and business magazines (full-text for 700), newspapers, and selected reference books.  Use for information on current events, the arts, science, business, industry, etc. Coverage is from 1994 to present; with access to a back file for 1980 - 1993.

Health Reference Center  
Provides indexing of 165 health periodicals, selected reference books, and over 500 pamphlets (full-text for 110 periodicals, the reference books and pamphlets).  Selective indexing from an additional 1,500 periodicals.  Use for information on fitness, pregnancy, medicine, nutrition, diseases, HMO’s, prescription drugs, etc.  Coverage is from 1995 to present. No back file.

Community Resources File
Washington County Library staff maintain this online directory of community organizations.  You may search by organization name or by subject to identify hard-to-find local organizations and services. 

Special Interest Lists  
A subset of the Bayport Public Library / Washington County Library online catalog.  Library staff create these lists of recommended books and other library materials on topics of special interest, such as " classics" for kids, best detective stories, multicultural readings, award-winning titles, new large print editions, etc.
